One of the most important stages of a sales call is the building rapport stage. If the salesperson fails to build rapport from the beginning of the interaction, the chances of making the sale becomes grim. Thus, many sales trainers make it a point to train their people to be skillful at building the kind of rapport that leads to closing more sales.

By applying the NLP principles of building rapport, a sales can establish trust and confidence with the buyer on an almost unconscious level. Matching behavior can also be defined as having the same body language as the other person you're communicating with. For example, if your buyer starts to open up and get enthusiastic about the purchase (as shown in the body language), you can reflect the same body language to match his actions.

There is one NLP technique for persuasion is called quotation. These are short statements that you can attribute to someone else. For the example, if you are trying to persuade someone to purchase a product from you, instead of saying "Buy this product" that always lead to rejection, you should say, "Best Computer Forum reported that there has never been a better time to buy". However, you have to make sure the quote is true!

Anybody can use quotations effectively to become more persuasive and influential. You could also choose to quote well know philosophers to make yourself sound more intelligent. Remember you can choose to quote anyone you wish, as long as your message is embedded in the quote.
