CLARK / MOORMAN Storeroom
by Linda Sparks Starr
JUL 1996
While re-organizing at the rear exceed, I came obliquely a letter from Kay Baganoff outmoded JAN 1996 which somehow got into the insincere flood of letters, message etc. Definite of her explanation started me thinking about original family reputation we've yet to notion -- TERRELL.
There's a lot of far along intermarriages in the middle of TERRELLS/CLARKs/
MOORMANs/JOHNSONs; but, I want to way on live in who ar
rived 1600s and retreat into England and Scotland wherever TERRELL
and JOHNSON/JOHNSTONE marriages are surprise. May I call in you, one journal of the MOORMAN rumor has a David TERRELL accompanying
the CLARKs and MOORMANs to Barbadoes from Isle of Wight, England.
I find it very exciting that the pure names "Micajah",
"Penelope", "Jonathan", and "Rachel" thoroughgoing in at smallest amount of one TER RELL line [David Sr. b. 1670] well further on any Well-known marriages into our CLARK line. All of this juvenile "stuff" comes from pages
6 and 7 of a very small booklet" of the Terrell
"compiled by C. M. Terrell, Lynchburg VA: M.P. Fright
Printers, no copyright date provided; neither is it important
but I can rescue clearance for a TERRELL contempory of Capt.
Xpher having dynasty named "Micajah" et al -- that is as soon as I lo cate the record I put it in! Letter to long-time correspondents:
are your files better location than mine? I elevate making
copies to compel available three to five time ago; I Desire it's
from from one of the reprint books -- pos
sibility involving with the Chiles line? Meanwhile, I'll keep
looking.
While looking for this clearance I came obliquely original TER
RELL (un-numbered inferior) "booklet" --" Genealogy Pedigree of the TYR- RELL, TERRELL and TERRILL Motherland of VA & TX... , by Roy Lee Ter rell of Sneak Gulch, CA 1934. This info is surprise on the sixth
inferior of magazine under generation #21, Timothy TERRELL, son of
Timothy of Allhollows, London deceased: "Timothy, an waif boy
took ship from England, and positioned in New Kent Co. VA... leav
ing his brother, Avery Terrell in England. Timothy populated in
the identical section in VA, in which his to intimate, Robert of Lon- don and VA, and William and Richmond of VA, had occupied up large
land grants inwards the time 1656 and 1670...Timothy married
Elizabeth Rear. Sons, Robert and Joseph."
This will first thoroughgoing to be a change of sports ground, but gratify cart with me; I vision to at the end of the day tie it all together. The train comes especially from pages 220-222 "Tidewater VA Families",
reduced by Virginia Hutchison Davis, vol. 4, No. 4, Feb/Mar 1996.
The article, "Cause Neck & Hocady Creek", seemingly begins on
inferior 214; it was in print by Lt. Col. James W. Doyle Jr., USAF, Ret. In the model titled "Eltham", Doyle begins with the
origin and history of that name. He suggests a probable knit
in the middle of the "Kent" English dot of Eltham and "New" Kent in VA. The unusual Eltham was a dwelling era at the time of the Nor
man Conquest; it's now a agreement and parish positioned southeast of London in Kent. A closer connection in the middle of the two Elthams than
"Kent" begins with King Edward IV, who made his at the rear of date to El tham in 1483. Edward died leave-taking two sons whose dusk
deaths are recognized to Edward's brother, Richard III.
Shakespeare in "Richard III" goes so far as to blame Sir James
TYRRELL as acquit yourself the substantial murderous con. Doyle says there's original reading of history, but doesn't go into it beyond recom
sewing Audrey Williamson's" Supernatural of the "Chicago: Academia Chicago Pub. 1986.
Quoting Doyle inferior 222: "4. The lead of Richard III was
compact. He was killed... 1485, but not further on he had slain Sir William Brandon, the standard bearer of his disbeliever, Henry Tudor.
Sir William Brandon's widow married Sir Thomas TYRRELL, brother
of the eminent Sir James Tyrrell, and fourth great grandfather
of Richmond TERRELL; Richmond populated in New Kent Constituency in
1656, about twenty miles west of Eltham.
5. Submit is a wisdom in the TYRRELL family that the
princes and their close relative lived at the royal home of Sir James Tyrrell inwards the lead of Richard III..."
I may err dressed in, but I think 20 miles west of Eltham puts one very close to wherever Capt. Xpher Clark, Edward Johnson, Thomas Moorman et. al. lived in 1690s. And as we'll see in the future article, El
tham was the dot for the improve on house of worship of Blisland Parish wherever Peter Massie, Richmond Terrell, Edward Johnson and Thomas
Moorman, together with others, signed the list of grievances in 1677.
One at the rear of quote from Doyle's article, which might prove operational given that reading clean up records: [inferior 214] "In precedent time, the Eltham VA environs was assured as mention Neck,' and West Funny turn was labelled 'Clayborn'. These names thoroughgoing on at smallest amount of one juvenile map, outmoded 1719... [inferior 215]... The first meetings of New Kent Constituency Law court met at the bar era on Cause Neck, and some of the at the rear of of Bacon's Rebels camped in the from one place to another woods."
Doyle [TVF vol. 2, No. 2, AUG/SEP 1993, pages 72-75] authored
of partnership to us, "The Start of Blisland
Parish": Quoting from Chamberlayne's introduction to"
Obtain of Blisland "Doyle says the parish was arrange a
few months further on 13 OCT 1653. The name derives from a dwelling lo cated in Cornwall, anciently in print "Bluston" and "Bliston".
The rest of the article is exciting, but not of partnership to
our study. Stagnant, this article spurred David Winfred Gaddy to
key in spread about juvenile Blisland. This is surprise in TVF vol. 3, No. 2, Aug/Sep 1994, inferior 82-85, entitled "Warranigh Clerical,
1703, Cap Clerical, Blisland Parish, New Kent Constituency":
"This improve on Clerical of Blisland Parish was seemingly named
for Wahrani Creek (this is the spelling on a up-to-the-minute map)
being of its dot in close imminence to the stream... Budding
land patents present land as closest Warrany Creek.
The house of worship was erected at the controller of what is today, Wahrani Cascade, unconscious on a up-to-the-minute map to flow in a southerly direc tion into Diascund Creek Reservoir and the Chickahominy River (US
go on 60). Wahrani Creek emerges in the middle of Routes 30 and 33 on the south side of the York River. This is just a few miles from West
Funny turn on the north side of the Pamunkey River, and Eltham on the south side..."
In 1814 Samuel Mordecai wrote his sister Rachel, [inferior 84]
from the "remainder of the old house of worship. The house of worship was set on a high meet overlooking the spin of the Pamukey and Mattaponi
rivers at the formation of the York. It was by the old bearing, the colonial street, that ran from Eltham to Williamsburg. In 1814
only the fortifications and a part of the crown remained... An correspondence over one of the doors survived, with the correspondence 'Blisland
Parish and '1703'."
Is display any grumble this is the dot wherever parishioners of the improve on house of worship of Blisland Parish met to put forward and sign grievances against the shape of Gov. Berkeley in 1677. Does all this
liberty an in-depth study of Richmond TERRELL and his family? Or
am I going off on a insincere tangent? Are display TERRELLs in Bar
badoes? Malcolm Hart Harris in" New Kent County: Definite Acct of
the Planters, Plantations & Seats... , vol. 1 and 2, [decomposing I didn't note spread publishing data!] says "Submit are two strong
TERRELL families who came -- the TERRELLs of Drayton and Hagborne
and the TERRELLs of Smooth as glass." The Smooth as glass bundle fashioned the Quakers of Louisa and Hanover. Which line does Richmond Terrell
belong to? Are display CLARKs, MOORMANs and JOHNSONs in Reading?
Now to my message messages ready July 20...
While exceed I posted a disgrace to TANDY family researchers
about the relationship in the middle of Agnes & Anne, their jerk John and Alexander McKinney. It's best to just say the register I
acknowledged from three sources differed in some respect, with one
exception--all had Anne and Agnes as daus of Thomas Tandy, and
John Tanday as having no issue; this is extraordinary back my transport of Henrico Co. sensible documents visibly says they are the daus of John put off.
Harshly the juvenile New Kent Co. TANDY "story" is this: Wil-
liam Tandy b. 1615 stylish in Annapolis mid-century (dates differ
according to correspondent) as a headright for (again depends on
correspondent). William Tandy Sr. died 1677 Warwick and/or New Kent Co.
VA. He had two or three sons -- William d. 1692 Warwick Co. VA
is the one in question; John Tandy 1647-1693 New Kent Co. VA and
Thomas Tandy d. 1701 m. Joan d. 1693 New Kent Co. OR deathyears
for Thomas and Joan are wrong way up.
One exciting luxury -- "Allen" only is pure as source:
"Ann Tandy was arrested for the homicide of her bastard young man and said in goal pending action of the Brief Total. Submit is
no edition of this action, but revenge in the dub was cut-rate
and normally outline." Not the same writer did give the train cita
tion: "In" Colonial Abstacts, King and Queen "Vol. 7,
inferior 7, display is a assert of John Redwood for accommodation and guarding Ann Tandy, a injury person."
Slip away Johnson answered a disgrace on va-roots in juvenile July which I surprise exciting. The writer was asking about the reduction swallow the Blackwater River in juvenile Isle of Wight Constituency. He noted they used barrels of occur to acquisition land to a certain extent of tobacco.
Slip away replied that VA had "a in detail commercial activity provid ing ocean floor repair support for ships." He explained VA had the
leaves to rescue new mastings and occur and tar to repair leaks,
as well as strong-tasting wet marina for ships needing prevalent keep.
VA also "fashioned" saline fish to top off ships sailing to far
remark ports.
Slip away as well as particularly this record which was new to me -- at smallest amount of the NE to VA angle: "Bountiful of the prevalent plantation owners in VA dispatched one of their sons to England to stir the com
mercial interests of the family in the London retail. Too,
affluent New England surgical procedure men in Boston and former ports would compel a son to VA to represent the family haulage businesses."
Others in this group are spread on top of things; given that Dave and I were discussing our Yankee ancestry, he wrote: "[I] am interested
in CLARKs and ANTHONYs display (yes, the VA ANTHONYs and the Rhode
Island ANTHONYs are of the identical family and I Desire the CLARKs who came to RI MAY be simultaneous to "ours". These Clarkes were of the Clarke family of Wrotham, Kent, who produce a one and the same shield of armaments, but also had some focused of connection to the DAVEY family I've been writing about..." This is a key example of reasons
for grouping research.
In due course, can one help this "cousin"? Petition compel explanation to him, not me. He wrote: "I am looking for information on my
4grandfather, James JOHNSON, born 1759 in Louisa Co. VA. He
stimulated to Bedford Co. as a young man, and as well as Campbell Co. so it location. [He it would seem didn't move; the section lines just
assorted. LSS] He was dwell with a brother in Amelia Co. about
1781. He was probably the son of Benjamin JOHNSON and Mary
"Molly" MOORMAN, but I cannot explain a positive connection.
They were members of the South River Magazine Upper house.
He served in the Insurrectionary War under innumerable officers,
with Capt. Pamplin. He stimulated to SC soon at the rear the war,
as well as to... TN and... KY... died in Washington Co. MO in 1834."

Thomas Clarke, Not obligatory Flinch of Christopher
by Douglas Tucker
APR 1996
The Thomas Clarke in the 1689 NKC processioning guidelines, if re
lated at all, is spread probable Edward's melancholy brother than his jerk. Based on the household age range of the Clark
dynasty, Thomas was a couple of time melancholy than Edward. Both
legally may well produce been landowners by 1689, but only Thomas shows up in the processioning order. To be on the 1689 order, he prob
expertly had to produce been a home carrier of list in 1688 so Ed
ward would produce been just 21. Can we place these Clarke's in Vir- ginia that early? I also take on we can place this identical Thomas Clarke in denouement Charles Capital Co. at the rear 1689, which suggests that his land may produce been in the border environs in the middle of NKC and Charles Capital Co. The border shifted in the middle of 1689 and 1704. That also is why Alex. McKenney's land ended up in Charles Capital Co.
Sink (but few hard top score) tells me that surviving members of
the Barbadoes Clark event were all citizen in Virginia, or
most likely Carolina, by the late 1680's. Submit is no happy list
of any of "our" Clarks unwanted in Barbadoes at the rear the 1680 Cen sus, with the probable exception of Francis. If they had rem
mained, wouldn't their marriages or their apprentice births produce unconscious up in the Clerical of England registers?
As you decipher, I do not think the Barbadoes Clarks were Quakers.
Submit are three assured lists of Barbadoes Quakers reprinted in ap pendices to Submit are two Clarke's on the
list, a Thomas who was a leader of the Barbadoes Contacts move
ment, and a William who appears to produce been Thomas' brother.
Both were still in Barbadoes in 1696 so they signed go cer
tificates for man Quakers leave-taking for Philadelphia. Impor
tantly, this Thomas Clarke is extensively too old to produce been a member of "our" Clark family.
Submit is also a list of 186 Quaker women in Barbadoes circa 1677,
but no Margaret Clarks or Clarkes. This list is it would seem fairly comprehensive being it covers all six Barbadoes meetings and
display were theoretically not as much of than 300 Quakers on the coral isle in
1679.
If former Clark brothers migrated to VA, logic says they did so
together but may produce circulated at the rear they stylish. Faction with the time may foil to see if any adult male Clark's (named Fran
cis, William, Christopher, or Thomas) on a whim thoroughgoing on the Vir ginia scene in the middle of 1680 and 1690 with ready-made families and no former obvious family ties. We it would seem must to foil North
Carolina as well being display are Quaker Clark's in Pasquotank
(to Elizabeth Capital) and New Hanover (to Wilmington) Counties
in the late 17th and juvenile 18th centuries.
One Virginia Clark family that I decipher about did migrate to
Carolina further on 1700. That was the family of Humphrey Clark of
Nansemond Co. Humphrey was a VIP of sorts and display is a stubborn older stem, each wager on and take up, for him. He was not
Quaker but display is some consideration that he was hardheartedly related to "our" Clarks. I don't decipher about that.
